ReSeed is proud to announce its strategic partnership in the launch of the groundbreaking Kawá fund, an innovative financing initiative designed to empower smallholder cocoa farmers in Brazil through sustainable agriculture and carbon credit generation.
The Kawá fund, inspired by an Indigenous word “kakawa” (cocoa), combines public, private, and philanthropic resources, bringing together key organizations, including Instituto Arapyaú, Violet, Tabôa Fortalecimento Comunitário, and MOV Investimentos. ReSeed will provide essential carbon market infrastructure as a core partner through our specialized platform, enabling small farmers to generate and commercialize carbon credits effectively.
With an initial investment of approximately $5.9 million, Kawá seeks to mobilize up to $176 million by 2030, directly benefiting 1,200 cocoa producers in Bahia and Pará in its first phase alone. This initiative builds on proven methodologies demonstrated by previous programs, notably the Sustainable CRA, which increased farmer income by 60% and productivity by 52% between 2020 and 2023.
ReSeed’s Smallholder Farmer Social Impact Carbon Protocol will be central to measuring and verifying carbon sequestration and social impact, ensuring transparency and credibility in carbon credit generation. Farmers participating in the Kawá fund will access competitive loan rates, enabling them to adopt regenerative practices that enhance both environmental resilience and economic viability.
Through this partnership, ReSeed reaffirms its commitment to innovative solutions that support smallholder farmers, regenerate ecosystems, and drive meaningful climate action.
